Choosing the right LVT floor
You buy a floor once every twenty years, so it is worth pausing on three things: the pattern, the installation system and the colour.
Pattern: herringbone or plank
A herringbone floor gives a room character and depth, and works particularly well in a classic or country interior. Allow 10% cutting waste and a little more installation time. A plank floor is calmer, faster to lay and makes a small room look larger — especially in our 1.52 m XL planks.
System: click or dry-back
Click LVT you install yourself, floating, without adhesive. Dry-back is thinner and fully bonded; choose it when build-up height is tight or when you want the most from your underfloor heating.
Colour: judge it in your own light
Colours look very different under shop lighting and at home in daylight. Always order free samples first and leave them for a day in the room the floor is going into.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between click and dry-back LVT?
Click LVT has a locking edge and is laid floating, without adhesive — you can do it yourself and the floor can be lifted again later. Dry-back is 2.5 mm thin and is fully bonded to a level subfloor. Dry-back gives the best heat transfer with underfloor heating and the lowest build-up, but it demands a level subfloor and usually a professional.
Which thickness do I need?
For a living room we recommend 5 or 6 mm click: those have an integrated underlay, dampen impact sound and forgive small irregularities in the subfloor. Choose 2.5 mm dry-back when doors cannot be raised or when underfloor heating is the main heat source.
Is an LVT floor suitable for a bathroom?
Yes, LVT is 100% waterproof. For wet rooms we recommend dry-back or our Stone tiles, fully bonded, so water cannot get under the floor through the joints.
How much cutting waste should I allow?
For a straight plank floor allow 5% extra, for herringbone 10%. Every product page has a calculator that converts your m² into whole packs.
How long does an LVT floor last?
Under normal domestic use a quality floor with a 0.55 mm wear layer lasts 20 years or more. We give up to 20 years warranty against wear.
