Why herringbone?
Herringbone is the most requested floor of the moment, and that is no accident. The pattern gives a room character straight away: where a straight plank floor stays neutral, herringbone makes the floor itself a design decision.
In LVT you get that effect without the drawbacks of real herringbone parquet. No shrinking and swelling with humidity, no rings from a spilled glass, no sanding and re-lacquering every ten years. And because our click floors have an integrated underlay, the floor sounds solid rather than hollow.
Herringbone or plank?
Our 750 × 150 mm pieces give a classic, fine herringbone. If you want a calmer look with fewer joints, look at the plank version of the same design — every herringbone design at Calitex is also available as a plank.
Installation cost
Having it fitted? For herringbone a professional typically charges € 8 to € 15 per m² more than for a straight plank floor, because the pattern takes more time and more cutting. Build that into your budget.
Frequently asked questions
How much extra material do I need for herringbone?
Allow 10% cutting waste, against 5% for a straight plank floor. For a 30 m² room you would order roughly 33 m². The calculator on each product page does this automatically.
Can I lay a herringbone floor myself?
With click, yes, but it is precise work: you alternate left- and right-handed pieces and the first row sets the whole pattern. Give yourself plenty of time, or have a professional do it. Our herringbone packs contain both orientations.
What size are the herringbone pieces?
Our herringbone pieces are 750 × 150 mm in the Diamonds, Grande, Wood and La Bella Maison collections, and 610 × 150 mm in Originals.
Does herringbone work in a small room?
Certainly. A herringbone pattern draws the eye diagonally through the room, which makes a narrow hallway look wider. Do choose a calm, light colour — a busy design makes a small room restless.
